Answer: As a big woman at 260, and with my man at 215, we had the same question before purchase, so I'd be pleased to answer. I sink in about 2-3" no matter which way I lie, which makes changing positions difficult as I have severe low back pain. You kind of have to lift then turn. And it has been a bit awkward for intimacy as it is hard to move nimbly. That being said, I have noticed less pain and inflammation in my back legs and feet when I wake up in the morning, which led us to keep the mattress. I don't know if it will last with our weight on it every night, but for now it rebounds in seconds and there are no indents.
Question: Has anyone used this with a king size Tempur-Pedic mattress? If so, how is it holding up?
Answer: It held up pretty well while I had it. I never moved it when I went from an apartment to living at home while I worked, so disassemble, I wouldn't know. It's the composite material that isn't a real long term solution for furniture. Also rough sex started to unscrew a cross beam's screw on each side, but that was easily re-tightened and I suggest Gorilla glue. If the drawers were a little deeper for me personally, it would be even better. I have since then bought a similar model of bed, but this one was better made. It I one day find an all wood captains bed like this one, then I'd buy it. Great for storage, and keeping your bed lower for easy sitting and laying down, it's wonderful.
Question: Would this attach to a headboard if i had one?
Answer: not unless you created some sort of dock&latch port. there is no system in place to attach a headboard. i did buy the headboard (the one wtih the shelving units) that is associated with the product and just pushed the bed up against it and it worked great. but there is nothing in place to attach a headboard .
Question: Does anyone that owns this bed use their box springs with it?
Answer: I did not simply because with the box spring on top of the platform frame slats the bed was about 4 1/2 feet off the ground. so we just put it directly onto the slats...
if you purchase just be careful during construction as some of the wood is kind of thin and soft so screws can shred or tear if you have to screw in/unscrew and screw again.
Answer 2:
I use this bed with my box spring and mattress. I have had it for about a year and a half and I have no complaints. I didn't encounter trouble with the slats because I opted not to screw thru them. Those pieces are made for stability which is only needed when shifting the bed but its a king size monster and I have no intention breaking my back trying to move it.
Question: What is the maximum height of a mattress that will fit on this platform without blocking the shelves?
Answer: I think I measured correctly at 17 inches the mattress would be even with shelf but u still need to take into account the pillow of 6 to 8 inches. I think I used a 1x10 (although as I measure it now it is 8 1/2 inches deep) on each side to raise the whole headboard up around 15 in. so we could use box springs and fat mattress.
Question: Does this fit a California king mattress ?
Answer: No, a California King mattress would/could effect the platform of the bed becoming out of square which could effect the drawers opening properly and other mechanical problems. The information was provided by my husband who is a master carpenter.
Question: What is the height of the platform bed base(I am not asking the headboard height)?
Answer: It measures 12 inches from the top of the platform to the ground. The legs of the bed are 2 inches high. So in total, the base is 10 inches (not including the legs)
Question: I ordered this for my daughter the pieces that hold up mattress are cheap and broke easy ?
Answer:
We have had a few slats that broke, but from me kneeling on the bed, not from our son (he's 4 and about 32 lbs). I contacted the company and they sent me out replacements. We are happy with their response and hopefully the replacement pieces hold up better. They also sent us some spares just in case it happens again.
Question: Will this bed fit comfortably in a 11x11 room?
Answer: The bed frame is minimal so if a queen size mattress fits comfortably in the 11x11 room this frame will be fine. I guess it depends on what else your trying to put in the room. The bed will fit just fine, but adding other large furniture will crowd the room. I bought a chest and a night stand to go with this bed and love it.
Question: I know I do not need a box spring with this bed, but will it hold up if i decide to put a box spring and mattress on it?
Answer:
I don't recommend this bed because the wooden slats crack and break very easily. Although the seller sent me replacement slats, they just keep breaking. Very flimsy wood. My son has a platform bed with a solid wood base and I wish I got that for my daughter instead of this one. He's had it 4 years now with zero issues. The DHP platform broke the very first day.
Answer 2:
It's pretty sturdy. We started off with both a box spring and mattress. It was great and worked fine. However, it raised the bed to a height that was not feasible for my aging mother and she was not able to navigate the extra height the box spring added to the bed, so we removed it and just used the mattress w/frame. Personally, I liked the higher look with the box spring, but it still looks great with just the frame and mattress.
Question: What is the foam density?
Answer: 4 pound foam density/9 ILD-which is medium/firm.
For those of you who do not know what this means, this will help: 5lb, 4lb, 3lb and 2.5lb densities are the most common and most popular with consumers today.Foam density is measured in pounds per cubic foot (pcf) or in metric terms, kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m3). When a foam product is described as being a 5lb density what that actually means is that 1 cubic foot of foam material weights 5lbs. It is important to know the actual foam density to make sure it will provide you with the comfort and support you are looking for.Mostly the higher the foam density, the more support it will provide and the more durable it will be.Support is a very important aspect of foam bedding as it is defined as "to carry weight of, hold up, and keep from falling or sinking". In bedding, this corresponds to making sure the product does not bottom out or compress to the point where it no longer holds the weight of the person using the topper, mattress or pillow.Foam density is independent of foam firmness.
Question: WHAT IS THE ILD NUMBER ON THIS MATTRESS?
Answer: Why are you people answering if you don't know?! Some sad, lonely individuals out there...
ILD means impression load deflection. It indicates of how soft or how firm the mattress is, and how much comfort and support you can expect from it.
The item description gives an ILD rating of 9. We have this bed, it's quite firm without being too rigid. We use a softer topper to preserve the mattress from wear, but you might choose to wait until after you've slept in the mattress itself before determining whether you want a softer topper or not.
Question: Is this same as signature sleep memoir 8" memory foam market listed in the signature sleep website ? the model number seems to be different.
Answer: In my opinion, yes, the same. Note that in the Amazon blurb description, the list directly under the title for this 8", it states that the Memoir mattress is also available in 6" and 12". Further, when comparing model numbers at Amazon and Sleep Signature page for the 8" Memoir, I found I had to be careful that I had selected the same mattress "size" at both sites. It's easy to overlook, but makes a difference because one digit changes -- 0 indicating twin, 1 for full, 2 for queen, and 3 for king. For the full size in this 8", the only difference in the model number between the two site is that Amazon's number has two leading zeroes. Of course, to be dead sure, you could call the tollfree number at the Signature Sleep website. I've had fairly good success recently with manufacturer responses to questions that users couldn't answer.
Question: Why did this mattress rise over $100 in price over 2 days? On Thursday, it was selling for $279. Now it's $393?
Answer: It's priced at $460 for me. The king size is almost $100 cheaper. I was just about to buy it before the jump. I suspect they have low inventory, but I only base that on Walmart being sold out. Thankfully, there are lots of other options on Amazon and Walmart has it close to the original Amazon price.
Question: Good for a bunk bed?
Answer: Yes. We put it on my daughters bunk bed. There isn't anything under it but the wooden slats and she now prefers to sleep in her own bed. It would probably rival my own bed if you put it over some sort of solid mattress but with her light weight, it was not a problem. I don't think that it would be comfortable over just the wooden slats for an adult. The bed is nice. I think that it is a great value and we haven't given it a second thought. It was ready to go in a few minutes and opening it was fun. It shipped quickly and beat several other in Stock items to my home that were ordered in the same batch. Enjoy.
Question: Can this mattress be trimmed? I will be using it in a travel trailer and it's only 48" wide. Twin is too small.
Answer: I would imagine you can trim it if you use a razor or very sharp knife, but there is a material covering the actual foam so you have to cut that too as there is no zipper or opening to take it off, I guess you could sew it when you're finished. I have not cut or trimmed my mattress so I'm not 100%sure how it would turn out. I think if I were to attempt to trim this mattress, I'd do so while it's still in the air tight package, seems like you could get a cleaner cut while the mattress is fairly flat.

Question: Can this foam be cut easily? I need a custom size for a camper project and plan to cut down the mattress.
Answer: I dont think it would be wise to start cutting this mattress. It can be cut very easily with razor sharp edges. The instructions on the packaging instruct to use a scissor to remove the vacuum package of the mattress. I was toying with the idea of cutting a full sized mattress but i'm not sure if the outer shell of the mattress is heat treated to limit the flow of air. I definitely would recommend contacting the manufacturer with questions about cutting the mattress or having a mattress custom made. Those are my concerns. Im sure it would be fine if it were to be cut but i do not have enough information to recommend doing so.
